Photobox is a website where you can get your digital photographs developed and have them sent to you as real photos on photo paper. They also offer a variety of other services such as having your picture made into a mug, mouse-mat, or even a poster. The site has various menus at the side there are: Photo Gifts & Cards, Services & Prices, Quality Advice, Public Albums, Pro Galleries. Then there’s a section where you can share your pictures with your friends, and another section where you can click to be taken through a step by step guide on how to use the site. This is quite a good starting point if you’ve not used a site like this before, as it explains everything quite clearly.
Prices vary a lot on the site depending on what it is you want to order, but they do have a very clear price list there for you to refer to which is good. A standard size photo can be 6”x4.5” or 6”x4” or 5”x3.75”. All these cost the same, and it’s per print according to how many you buy. So if you buy between 1-149 then it’s 10p per print, 150-299 is 8p each, 300-499 is 7p each and 500+ prints and you only pay 4p each. So obviously the larger your order, the less you are going to pay per item. Oh, and this is for gloss or matt finish as well. Obviously they do other sizes like 7×9, 10×8 and so on, these are different prices according to how many you want as well, and you can find all the details of the prices on their price list.
One thing I do rather like about the site is the variety of gift items you can have made up with a picture on them. They do the normal mugs, calendars and keyrings, but they also do things like wash bags, handbag, jigsaw, t-shirt, placemat’s and coasters. Some really interesting ideas for way’s of giving photo gifts.
Photobox accepts a wide variety of payment methods, Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Maestro, Visa Electron and PayPal. I personally find the fact that they accept paypal very useful and am pleased to see more and more sites like this accepting it as an option these days.
Postage costs are done by weight, so if the items you ordered weigh in at under 500g it’s £1.50, 500-1kg it’s £2.99 and 1kg-2kg is £3.99 for standard UK first class delivery. Obviously this is more if you’re outside the UK or want Courier or special delivery options, or if your items total a weight above 2kg. Most prints are despatched the same day the order is received if this is before 4pm which means you do get your prints nice and fast. For gift items the service takes a little longer though needing approx 3 days before they’re despatched.
